You (yourself) can edit it![edit]

This page will be updated periodically whenever new scenarios and examples arise. This is a bike shed article, if there's a category for that, you're welcome to edit the page and stick the appropriate code in here, otherwise I honestly can't work the search function for the life of me.

You've been routed to this page because of the possible following...[edit]

  1. You have opinions on how someone or a group of someones did something recently, maybe a change or improvement in the physical space or online somewhere, and you think it must be done differently because you have these opinions.
  2. You want others to do more or something new, and have ideas on how it could be done or it's end outcome, however you show no actual interest to do the work yourself.
  3. You're unsatisfied with the actions of others and opted to spend time creating dialogue to outline this un-satisfaction in the form of asking to have options of dis-inclusion (such as an opt out button) that is some how easier to use than simply walking away.

The opinions of all in Noisebridgelandia are important, however sometimes more important (particularly to community) is the effort put into being constructive with those opinions. When you (or anyone) tells someone that something they've done is incorrect or should/needs to be different without offering to help out, it's a little hurtful. No one, including yourself, enjoys being talked down to (in most situations). Rephrasing your options into constructive support helps everyone.

Additionally, almost all the time, the opinions you have can easily be executed by yourself, and in many cases be seen as an additional improvement. Being a doer is way more sexier than just a talking head on a list or at a meeting.

Some good examples of being more constructive are...[edit]

  1. The space and the wiki are fluid and editable, if a recent change doesn't feel right, try creating dialogue about your opinions and how the group can come to an outcome that'll make everyone happy (not just yourself).
  2. Offer to make the changes or to provide help in the group working together to improve the situation for all. You get bonus points for actually pulling through with the doing some or all of the work yourself bit.
  3. Noisebridge is a community, and it's your choice to participate in that community. If some aspect of Noisebridge isn't working for you, before telling others to figure out some solution on how you can not be included in it, first ask yourself if it would make sense to simply remove yourself from the situation. Everyone wants to have fun and all of our fun is different and many times incompatible, saying no to someone else's fun sucks especially when you can take action immediately to not have it directly effect you.

Everyone makes mistakes, that's ok. Noisebridge is all about making mistakes.[edit]

If you were linked here by someone else, you most likely have good intentions and that person believes you can do better by being more constructive with your intentions.

Remember that Noisebridge is a wiki, you (yourself) can edit it. If you have an opinion about something remember the you (yourself) can edit it bit when discussing your thoughts with other people, offer to be the change you want to see, or at least part of it. And remember to consider everyone taking part of this community. In the words of ZomboCom, The only limit, is yourself!
