Sleeping at Noisebridge
Feb 21. Coffee at the Kitchen table.  Easy peasy.  Can't tell you from first hand experience who is sleeping at nb these last mornings ,but I'm appropriate the validation for what I did that has been privately extended.--Greg (talk) 15:31, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Feb 19.  Yesterday morning I was at Noisebridge early.  Some weeks before, I had moderated at a meeting where Al brought up the issues of people sleeping.  I believed that the consensus of the room was that sleeping was a problem, but that dealing with it was a problematic.    There was also  frustration about the proof or  "red or green light" issue.  People were saying incredible things, "oy I was just closing my eyes:"  People claiming that they almost don't sleep - like ever  huh, how is that.    So the problem was, how could we know if it was a true "closed eyes for a moment" or this was someone who was repeatedly sleeping at the space.

I wanted to help Al out in that is seemed too much of a burden for him to be coming to the space frequently, and having the task of waking people up.  Waking difficult people up, can't be fun.  And getting up early and dealing with parking is annoying.  My solution was, that I would step up to the task.  It made sense that it was me because I live nearby and my normal schedule is to wake up early.  Compared to other people, I could come to the space in the morning and see who was sleeping.

To help Al and Noisebridge, I changed my pattern to making a pot of coffee every morning at nb.  I'd clean the area around the coffee pot.  I'd offer coffee to other people in the space.  And, I'd observe who was sleeping at the space and creating problems in the mornings.  I didn't go poking around into the secret hiding spots in Noisebridge.  Maybe I should have, and maybe not, but I figured I'd ease into the task and just note who was sleeping in the open.  Occasionally, I did note when I saw someone emerge from a hidden spot.

What I saw is that some people slept at Noisebridge, but left a small footprint.  They were quiet about how they did things.  They cleaned up after themselves.  They didn't impose what they wanted to do on others in the space.  they respected the place. so maybe sleeping per se wasn't the problem, but for sure it was a problem because there was definite positive correlation with sleeping at nb and unacceptable behavior.    I'd also note some of the contrary patterns.  People who ate overnight in the space and left their dishes for other people to clean.  People who spread out their stuff.  People who demanded that the rhythm  of the space change for their way.  I got the strong sense, of an association of people who slept at the space and then thinking it was their dominion.    Some of the notes that I took were here on my User talk page.

Making coffee in the morning and noting how people were using Noiesebridge in those early morning hours put me in direct conflict with Josh.  He slept at the space night after night. he didn't clean up his mess of dishes.  Maybe never.  he demanded that others be quiet when he wanted quiet.  But was loud when others were sleeping and working.  When he wanted no lights, he demanded the lights be off.  When he wanted to watch a video, he'd argue as if he was the only person that had a voice  He acted badly and blamed the others as the one who was wrong.  In the case of the couple he now has a consensus item to ban for <i>abusive behavior</i> he was being a total dick to them when they weren't doing anything to attract attention.    He got into conflict with multiple people in the space, as evidenced by that right now he has new nb record of requesting  4 people at once for banning.  5 if we include myself, because when I spoke to Josh we got to the mutual <b> asked to leave</b> status.

Then my wiki was getting vandalized, threats against me,  and when I brought it up to him, he looked guilty.

Enough.  Enough.  Matilida served me coffee this morning.  That's nice.

I'd like some allies. I'm tired of this bs.  What's the steps to take?

Can nb do something about the currently worst squatter at noisebridge?

Feb 17.  Lasted about an hour.  one of the most <strike>consistent resident sleepers</strike> Josh (NO_HAT) woke up from a hidden spot, and started talking loudly and telling people what to do.  Shows zero respect for both the other people sleeping, (probably with hangovers) and those of us who want to work quietly.  strike out.  But two days ago when I talked about <strike> his</strike> residence sleeping it became unpleasant and I decided to leave. Today I forgo talking to him about it seemed too much like it would be wasting breath and end in aggravation.  I just left the space again, but this is an unfortunate.  this isn't fair usage of the space.

Feb 17.  There are a lot of people sleeping at noisebridge this morning.  Very much of a crash pad feeling, except that its actually not so bad from the point of view that for the first minutes, they are asleep, and no one is in the space by the library.

Feb 16, one guy sleeping in the Church classroom.  I don't know his name,  first time I've see him sleeping here, although I've seen him at the space before.--Greg (talk) 14:44, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Feb 15, I spoke to No_Hat that I've been seeing him frequently asleep at Noisebridge and residence using of Noisebridge.  The conversation became all unpleasant.  I decided to leave because of that..    As I was leaving a women who I've seen twice working quietly at the table was also complaining about No_Hats behavior.  About an hour later, some anon blanked this page, and changed it to something like, I sleep at noisebridge.  So what.  This bs just takes too much effort.  Its not good for or sustainable for the  people to residence sleep at noisebridge.

Feb 15.  No_Hat was again sleeping at the front area common table area.  This represents the fourth morning that I have seen him sleeping at Noisebridge in a small number of days.  This seems to be a matter of residence sleeping.

Feb 14.  Nick sleeping again on the common area table.  No_Hat also was asleep at the front common area front table.

Feb 13.  Didn't see anyone openly sleeping, but I'm not checking spaces like the server room and hidden corners.  later both Kyle and Nick appeared with the looks o f people waking up.  Then it looked like he sleeping at the common table.  Monad talked to him, and it nearly got heated

@ 6:30 am on Feb 8. --Greg (talk) 14:36, 8 February 2014 (UTC)  two people openly sleeping.  One between the library and kitchen.    The other at the back windows.

@ 6:30 am on Feb 6, --Greg (talk) 14:43, 6 February 2014 (UTC) Someone took the table with hardwired internet, and moving it to make a second sleep cave in J.C. Space.  Not happy because its part of my coffee in the morning routine.  I didn't wake the person up, but want to, and ask what's up with moving this to make a sleep space.

@ 8:30 am local time,  when I left, there were two people openly sleeping in the space.    Should I start to be putting names with the sleeping people?
I know I feel different when it is "residency" sleeping from "catch some winks when working hard" or had a "extraordinary emergency" so.--Greg (talk) 16:59, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

6:30 am pacific time is --Greg (talk) 14:52, 5 February 2014 (UTC)  One sleeping at the common hacatorium table.  Someone who frequently slept here the last two weeks is awake and drawing.  Hidden, idk

--Greg (talk) 16:05, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Here just before 8 am.  Same two habitual sleepers.  One wakes up from J.C's cave, the other is still sleeping on the floor by the soldering area.
Better then when he was sleeping in the library.

--Greg (talk) 17:44, 2 February 2014 (UTC) second habitual sleeper comes out of J.C.'s den.

--Greg (talk) 17:05, 2 February 2014 (UTC) One guy openly sleeping by common table in Hackatorium.  Raining out.  Would feel sorry for him.  I think its 4 times I've seen him sleeping here, and two other times in the early am.  I think he has moved in.  Don't know his name.
:Did you ask his name? Or try talking to him about why people sleeping at Noisebridge makes it unpleasant for others? - anonymous
: No neither -  I'll probably ask around and get his name.  --Greg (talk) 17:15, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Gregorydillon (talk) 17:36, 31 January 2014 (UTC) got in late this morning.  Didn't see anyone asleep, but three people who regularly sleep at NB, here in the early.

Gregorydillon (talk) 14:39, 30 January 2014 (UTC) Got in about 6:15.  Two people sleeping in the Library.  Both are repeat sleepers.  (One is same guy as yesterday "wake up with coffee, wears a beanie."  and (?a??)

Gregorydillon (talk) 14:38, 29 January 2014 (UTC)  Got in just about 6:15.  One guy sleeping in the library where I like to drink my coffee.  I offered him a cup of coffee. he declined, and after a few went to the restroom, and then I believe a different space to finish his sleep.  All in all, rather chill.

Got in just just before six.  The place looked great.  The floor is clean, the kitchen is clean.  The space was quiet.

There were at least two people sleeping.    One in the DJ booth, and one in chairs in Church.Gregorydillon (talk) 14:07, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Self-Repair Manifesto vs Green Thoughts
Outside of the Turing Classroom, there is a poster for what's called the Self-Repair Manifesto.  It sounds great and makes sense, and has a do the right thing for the planet and environment leaning..  But  yesterday in the System Administration Class that Ron led,  its ideas come into conflict with the another do the right thing by the planet idea, of green computing and using computer that don't burn so much energy.

The server we were looking at runs at about 200 watts.  Calculating that to its daily costs, is about a dollar a day to have on 24/7.  So that comes to 300 to 400 a year.  Other computers available now, will cost more do buy, but will only use approx. 1/4 to a 1/3 as much power.

Its a good issue to wrestle with, when the older computers should be repaired, and when they should be e-wasted because new computers use significantly less power.  And world energy consumption and effect on global warming is real.

Asked Josh to leave this morning and not return until the Tuesday meeting
I asked Josh to leave this morning and not return until the Tuesday meeting.

I arrived about 6:30, and put on the lights.  He became incensed that I turned on the lights.  A

I walked away from him and began making a cup of coffee. He turned light off.

When I came back  there were 4 tea cups, with tea bag in most, glasses, plates and uneaten food on the common table.  I asked who's? and got no response.  I began cleaning it up, and Josh went all argumentative again not to touch his food.  I said he needs to acknowledge and clean.  Became more argumentative.

I asked him to leave and not return until the Tuesday meeting.  He said he wasn't going anywhere, and claimed that I was being rude.
