Surface Mount Soldering Workshop[edit]

When: TBD

Where: Noisebridge, 83C Wiese, San Francisco, CA 94103

What: Learn to solder with surface mount parts! -- All parts and tools provided

Recommended for: peoople who have soldered at least one project,
such as people who've made something at one of Noisebridge's weekly Circuit Hacking Mondays.

Now that you know how to solder, why not learn to solder tiny little circuits? Those tiny little parts you see if you open up most modern electronics are called Surface Mount Devices, or SMD. They are designed for machines to put together, but with a few tricks you can learn solder small circuits using these parts as well.

Mitch Altman and Martin Bogomolni and others will show their tricks.

Mitch will bring hackable kits that uses surface mounts for you to solder (they are a mini TV-B-Gone remote control).

Feel free to bring your own project to solder.

We will also have a demonstration of how to use a toaster oven to circuits with surface mount parts.

All tools and parts are provided. I ask that people reimburse me for my cost of the parts, if you use them -- about $15.

Mitch.
