Introduction

Believe it or not, Noisebridge has policies and procedures. They are called
"policies and procedures" because that's what every other organization calls them:
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Policies_and_procedures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Policies_and_procedures]

All of these policies and procedures exist for a reason. Some are legal requirements. Others are for everybody's safety. Some are just
to prevent petty disputes and avoid misunderstandings. In an ideal world, none of this would be necessary. But accidents happen, people disagree, and
lawsuits occur. These policies and procedures must exist to protect Noisebridge from all sorts of legal liability.

[https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/User:Dr_jesus Dr. Jesus] points out this page of guidelines, which basically serves the same purpose:

General Safety

USE OF THE SPACE IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

If you don't know what you're doing and it could threaten anybody's safety (not just yours!), DON'T DO IT!

Two complete first aid kits exist - both in the hall across from the kitchen.

About 6 working fire extinguishers are scattered throughout the space.

The black Cisco phone between the black payphone and red payphone makes outgoing phone calls. Pick up the receiver, dial 9, then 911 or the 7-digit phone number.

Policies

Safety

Warn anybody nearby before attempting anything potentially dangerous.

Shoes must be worn at all times when walking anywhere at Noisebridge.

Eye protection must be worn when working with anything mechanical that could result in any type of projectile.

An apron should be worn when working in the kitchen or with items that could stain or damage clothing.

No smoking is allowed inside Noisebridge, be it tobacco, marijuana, DMT, salvia divinorum, or otherwise.

Clean up spills and slippery floors immediately.

Security

Make sure the gate is fully closed and locked when entering or leaving the building.

Harassment

Make an honest effort not to ramble when speaking to others.

Ask yourself: "Why am I saying this?" before speaking to another person.

Do not follow people around the space if they get up and walk away while you talk.

If somebody won't stop talking, put on a pair of headphones to make it clear you're no longer listening.

If you are attracted to somebody, and you honestly believe the feeling is mutual, ask a mutual friend to find out for you instead of being creepy or direct.

Food

Unmarked food is considered to be for public consumption.

Food with somebody's name written on it is intended for that person only.

Procedures

Dispute Resolution

Resolve disputes between yourselves like adults.

Speak for yourself and only yourself.

Don't tell on other people.

Don't try to get others to take sides or form your own gang; We are all in this together.

Let it go if it's not that important to you.

Computer System Modifications

Post a comment to the rack mailing list if you modify any Noisebridge computer, suchas horsy or pony.
