== Discussion Items == If any important discussion happens, it should be happening after forward progress is made during consensus. Torrie: Jason is a discussion item for next week, I have tape for wheelchair accesible areas at NB, Jason is no longer at NB and I'd like to propose a meeting of the safe space meeting area and I have a few issues with the way this was dealed with Kyle: Jason is outside and this is more than a problem for the working group. (Roger is taking notes) Torrie: Let's talk about this right now. Kyle: Jason has bothered and threatened employees of Oh Happy Day. I talked to him at 6:00 PM today, asking how he was. He said "I am great right now. I got weed, I got beer, I'm selling my stuff". He was staying around. He's been around for 48 hours. Torrie: Has anyone told him to move on? Kyle: I don't think anyone has done that. Torrie: We should take this first step. Kyle: There's one issue - he has extreme delusions around white people. And I was trying to be very nonconfrontational at all costs. It would totally change him if he was confronted at all. He would flip out if someone said something like "I think you're wrong" Torrie: You're not the first person to say this and I trust your assertion. I'm not sure that a crisis hotline would be the be best thing. We should call the police. Blake: The police is not the solution. Blake: We can't make him leave. He's on the street. Torrie: Would you be willing to go down there and ask him to move on yourself? Blake: I don't think that would go over well. He can't be there forever. David: I actually moved on after finishing a Psychology PhD. I would be happy to go down there myself. Roger: What would you do? David: Protect your own safety first. Beyond that, it's a matter of having the proper experience. I don't have any general advice. Protect your safety and call the authorities if you are being threatened. Torrie: This is not a new problem. This is not something that has precipitated in the hour. I'm going to be that bitch and call the cops if people at Noisebridge are feeling unsafe. We are the people who make Noisebridge the way it is. We have gone to the limit of what we can do. I don't think there is a single person here who feels safe talking to him. If this person is a threat, something has to be done and it can't fucking wait. Blake: I don't think that Jason is a threat to anyone except for people who ask him to leave. I don't think it warrants people potentially getting killed for our safety. He can't be out there forever. He's been out for 48 hours, he'll have to move on. Blake: He's not berating people, only people that he knows. Torrie: Jason doesn't know me and he called me a "cunt" and a "bitch" and "get your whore face away from me". Kyle: People downstairs have similar sentiments and they aren't affiliated with Noisebridge. I totally agree with you, 5150 is fucking terrible. The mental health hotline is a better option, but I have no idea. The third option, which I volunteer for, is to ask him to leave. Although I have been extremely unconfrontational, this is risky. People have felt threatened. I would like somebody to be closeby. Jervon: I was here working yesterday, and when I went outside, Jason was a lot more comfortable. He felt like he didn't have a place to express himself freely. He was trying to say like he didn't have a voice, but threatening people is not okay. Kyle: He was approached and asked to leave by 3 or 4 people, and felt berated. I want help, but I don't want him to be singled out. Jervon: I should go with you. He's a gentle guy but he's got so much going on. Torrie: Backstory - He totally seems like a cool dude. Part of the things that have led to this situation were some of the things that he expressed. He was expressing views of intolerance. We can't tolerate intolerance. We can't have people expressing views that shut down other people. There's been a lot of shit that Noisebridge has talked about. Advocating for fascist behaviors is a line that we draw. J: He admitted to at least one person that he has schizophrenia & BPD. Are these confrontations, or delusions? He will backflip on a reasonable person. He cannot be dealt with like a neurotypical person. He is a nice guy. But he has issues. We cannot overlook these issues and the way that he is affecting people at noisebridge. Kyle: He's still there. With some other vendors. They let us have our conversation. I was planning on leaving a while ago. J, Torrie: I'm here until this is done. Kyle: I want to grab things and leave when this is done. I want to approach this with compassion. I think it would be a better approach if I was on my way out, rather than if I got my stuff. At least 1 person. Vicky: If we're going to call the cops, we need to humanize him & make sure he's not a scary black guy.
