Ball point pens can be beautiful too.

What

Learn to use pen and paper for all they're worth. Make beautiful words. We'll start with basics of using a pen, exercises in making marks on the page, and introductions to forms of italic and blackletter. In later classes we'll make our own cola pens, 3D print letters, or laser-cut a letterpress font. Would you like to help design a NoiseBridge font?

When

Thursday Evenings at 6:00pm.

There will be no class on July 18th as I'll be out of town, but people are welcome to come and practice together.

We are just getting started, so if this doesn't work for you, please contact me. Sunday afternoons were another possibility.

Where

Noisebridge, 2169 Mission St., San Francisco, 94114 (at 18th St., near 16th St. BART station). Map: Getting Here

Cost

Instruction is free! It's a myth that you need expensive tools to make beautiful letters. We'll learn how to do it even with a ball-point pen and paper. (Many banks provide such pens for free. :) However, use of traditional pens will also be covered, and a few will be available for loan during the class.

Instructor

Stan James, a longtime letter lover, current refuge from the startup world.
