Noisebridge, Initial writeup by Jarrod Hicks

Summary

Deep Cleaning and Purge of NoiseBridge

What Will Be Done

A walk through will be done to estimate the amount of garbage, and what types, in the space. Noisebridge will be run in a No Hack or Low Hack state while the space is cleared of all useless and abandoned equipment, hazards, materials, garbage, and infrastructure. Refuse from other RFP activity. As much as possible waste will be sent to the proper disposal sites. Renting a dumpster may be needed, depending on estimates. A cleaning session (sweeping, mopping, surface cleaning) will follow.

After walking through the space I estimated that we may have 20 cubic yards of debris, depending on what we are willing to part with. This does not include e-waste since we already have a good, although possibly not well communicated, process for removing that. I contacted Recology and requested a quote for an appropriately sized dumpster.

14Yd. Open box 12 L. x 7 W. x 5 H. Price $505 Saturday Price $580 Max weight 4000

20Yd. Open box 16 L. x 8 W. x 6 H. Price $575 Saturday Price $665 Max weight 6000

If we want to park a dumpster on the street a 7-day permit can be obtained from the San Francisco Department of Public Works for $92.55 and apparently would be obtained by the debris box company.

If there are other methods we may use that are cheaper or more flexible please add them here.

Also.

Thinking that this could also be handled by providing more capacity for getting waste out of NoiseBridge each week, I contacted Recology to get a quote for another Landfill bin. "To add another landfill bin the same size would increase your monthly bill from 50.34 to 96.96; please contact us and we will arrange as soon as possible from the time of your request." - Dorothy Anne Kinne, Recology™ Sunset Scavenger.

Doing this we may be able to start pre-cleaning the space and getting rid of debris area by area, then once enough trash is cleared out, have a shutdown and clean day.

Further details regarding logistics and procedures to be provided soon.

Why This Will Be Good

This is possibly at the heart of the rebase project. Over time the Noisebridge space has acquired a cache of debris. Cleaning out the space will change it dramatically. This is a projected that, in some form, is highly likely to find consensus and raise the spirits of everyone that participates and uses the space.

Why This Will Be Bad

Possibility of downtime to perform cleaning. Dumpster rental costs money.

How Long Will It Take

Proportional to the participation of the community.

In A Fantastic World, What Extra Budget Would You Like

Funds for a dumpster if we want try for doing this in a short time period, or funds for additional trash cans if we want to do this in a more drawn out process.
