nburl.net is simply a 1 to 1 redirect to our wiki. Our Mediawiki instance will redirect anything dumped into the root path and see if there's a wii page for it. From there you can create short titled wiki pages and redirect to anything else on the wiki or provide a clickable link to someplace else on the internet.

Why do it this way? Because spinning up and maintaining a new service is annoying (why the old nburl service died) and pretty much anyone can edit the wiki.

What?

Around the Noisebridge space are labels such as nburl.net/trash or nburl.net/sewing, which forward to pages on the wiki. By putting a short URL on equipment and objects in the space, we provide a way for people to look up more info. Ideally, the short URL should lead to a wiki page with the following:

  1. The instruction manual for this item, or any records related to it
  2. Where to put the object when you are done with it
  3. Any scheduling info related to this object, or if it is currently being used by someone else for a project

How does this work?

nburl.net is simply a 1 to 1 redirect to our wiki.

How to use our URL shortening service

Redirecting to short titled wiki pages

https://noisebridge.net/wiki/About

Take the title of the page and stick it in after nburl.net/ ...

nburl.net/about

When you go to the short URL, your browser is redirected as such...

nburl.net/about https://noisebridge.net/about https://noisebridge.net/wiki/About

Redirecting to annoying_and_hard_to_remember titled wiki pages

https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Maps_of_2169_Mission

Since the title is rather long, let's create a stub new page on the wiki called map...

https://noisebridge.net/wiki/map

Click on create at the top of the new page. Inside this new map page we're going to add in 1 line to redirect to Maps_of_2169_Mission...

#REDIRECT [[Maps_of_2169_Mission]]

Take the title of the new shorter map page and stick it in after nburl.net/ ...

nburl.net/map

When you go to the short URL, your browser is redirected as such...

nburl.net/map https://noisebridge.net/map https://noisebridge.net/wiki/map https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Maps_of_2169_Mission

Redirecting to internet linkz not on the wiki

https://html5zombo.com

This URL isn't on Noisebridge's wiki, but it would be nice to have a zimple URL that can direct people with the click of a link to the right place. Let'z create a new page on the wiki called zombo...

https://noisebridge.net/wiki/zombo

Click on create at the top of the new page. Inside this new zombo page we're just going to pazte a link to https://html5zombo.com...

https://html5zombo.com

Take the title of the new shorter zombo page and ztick it in after nburl.net/ ...

nburl.net/zombo

When you go to the short URL, your browser is redirected as zuch...

nburl.net/zombo https://noisebridge.net/zombo https://noisebridge.net/wiki/zombo Click Link https://html5zombo.com

You can do anything with nburl, anything at all, the only limit is yourself. welcome. the unattainable is unknown at nburl.
